Boostmobile RockCorps Concert: Nelly/Nas/Kelis/T.I./Jeezy and more

Boostmobile had their annual RockCorps concerts last night(9/23) in New York at Radio City Music Hall. The concert was free to anyone willing to volunteer for four hours. Tickets are given out randomly and I got lucky and ended up with a seventh row center seat and then moved up to the third row. Unfortunately when I moved up this 250 pound female usher was like I can't take video, right when Nas started performing(DAMN!). I still got him performing a few songs and him doing, "Blindfold Me," with Kelis, but I got no video of Jeezy and not so great video of T.I.

The lineup for the night included: Nelly, Nas, Kelis, T.I., Young Jeezy, Fabolous, Paul Wall, Papoose, Young B, Panic at the Disco, Taking Back Sundays, Don Omar and was hosted by Nick Cannon. Nick Cannon did a good job hosting even with the corney jokes. The crowd was young and he kept their attention. He was rocking a huge gold chain, I guess that's the new trend, if you go to the Kanye West concert page he has a big gold chain too.

The first act was one of the biggest, St.Louis rapper Nelly came out with guest Gipp, Ali and later on Paul Wall. Of course all the young ladies in the crowd were screaming. Nelly came out with a huge African inspired chain(like Nas), and had the crowd hype the whole performance. He even brought a girl from the crowd on stage to perform, "Dilemma." The young lady started out shy, but soon got closer and was putting her hands on Nelly(No RKelly). It was a nice little scene that I'm sure the girl will never forget. Nelly did a few songs, his verse from Shake Ya Tailfeather, and did Grillz with Paul Wall coming out to do his verse. Nelly delivered a great performance.

Then all the Spanish people in the crowd got hype when Don Omar came out. He came out with some sexy backup dancers moving their waist to the beat. Even though I had no idea what he was saying the beats on his songs were hot. Don Omar did his latest song from the Fast and Furious soundtrack, "Conteo." I was hoping he would do, "Reggaeton Latino," but he didn't. He ended his performance doing a song with Fab doing the remix of it, not sure of the name.

Fab, after doing the song with Don Omar, then came out doing some songs. His chain was huge just swaying side to side as he kept pacing the stage back and forth. Fab performed some hits including, "Its My Party," "Holla Back," "Can't let You Go," and "Breathe." Fab had a decent performance, I don't feel he put enough energy into it and he kept walking around way too much instead of coming to the center and looking into the crowd. Fab then said he was hungry, and he wanted some Chicken Noodle Soup. So then Young B comes out with some dancers and they perform Chicken Noodle Soup(They were playing this song all night long). Young B looked confused at first and lost her place so she just when back to the chorus, "Let it Rain, Clear it Out." Seems like she is in need of some stage practice, the crowd didn't care they were too busy dancing and watching the backup dancers do their best chicken noodle soup. Fab came and did a few lines on the Chicken Noodle Soup beat and that was the end of his time on stage.

Next was Papoose, his performance wasn't close to his act for the AllHipHop.com concert. Maybe it was because of the lack of Busta, larger venue or different crowd. Don't get me wrong he wasn't bad, he just didn't get the crowd as hype. He did a few songs, Reputation, his verse on the let me love you remix and his new song Get Right. He was ok, but definitely wasn't spectacular this night.

Next was a band I never heard of, "Taking Back Sunday." I may of not known who they were, but most of the crowd did and went crazy for them. The lead singer was swinging his microphone around like a mad man, but what the hell the crowd was into it. Later Panic at the Disco came out. All the black kids were doing their best rock n roll dancing impersonations. Panic at the Disco always give entertaining performances and the lead singer is very animated. The mainly black crowd enjoyed their performance of "I Write Sins Not Tragedies." Good to see people enjoying a diverse selection of music. Panic at the Disco are great to watch in front of any crowd.

Next was Kelis, she was a lot thinner then I thought she would be. She started with a song that I don't think anybody knew. But she then went on to do, "Milkshake," and "Bossy." She was into it, shaking her hips and dancing around the stage. She then went into her new song, "Blindfold Me." Nas came out and the two definitely had chemistry on stage. While performing Nas was feeling on her leg and smacked her behind. Nas chain is even more crazy in person, I wonder how much it weighs. Nas then went on to do, "If I Ruled the World," with Kelis singing Lauryn Hill part and "Made You Look." Unfortunately this overgrown usher started getting at me and said no video. Nas killed it and had the building shaking.

Next was Jeezy, rocking the inside out Air Force Ones. He did his thing, guys in the crowd was really into his performance. He did all his major songs and even his new song, "I Know You."

The last performer of the night was a very hype T.I. He came out with intensity in his lines. He worked the stage well make sure every side got love and made sure to lean in and give the crowd some pounds. T.I. had the best performance of the night because of his stage presence and vivacious performance. He got a little too carried away taking off his clothes, but I guess the females in the crowd would disagree. He did all the major hits, "Rubberband Man," "Motivation," "Top Back," and finsihed with, "What You Know About That." T.I. is a great performer and made sure the crowd was happy they volunteered.

Overall it was a nice concert, what more can you ask for it was free. It was nice that it was diverse, had some Pop, Reggaeton, R&B and Rap. Next year make sure you donate four hours of your time for a good cause and you can get a chance to see a great Hip Hop concert.
